In May 2019, HKDC office was relocated to The Mills, a cultural and innovative hub in Tsuen Wan. The open-plan office has incorporated design thinking to encourage more communication, collaboration and creative thinking among colleagues, redefining our work culture through placemaking.

Fashion Asia Hong Kong launched a new initiative to expand the format and reach of its content – the Fashion Asia Digital Series. Featuring short videos and podcasts, fashion and brand leaders are invited to share insightful business solutions and actionable perspectives on global fashion developments, with a particular focus in Asia.

The 150-metre-long photographic installation “This is Wan Chai” was unveiled at the platforms of the MTR Wan Chai Station since March 2020. This placemaking initiative was commissioned by the MTR Corporation, jointly initiated with HKDC and produced by UK design studio Wind & Foster, with local and overseas collaborators including Hong Kong Ballet, Treacle Media, UK's Department for International Trade and Conran + Partners.

Our Institute of Design Thinking (IDK) created a handy toolkit to guide beginners through the essential stages of design thinking, and help them generate innovation solutions for everyday problems. Downloadable from the IDK website, the toolkit consists of a guidebook, prompt cards and worksheets, as well as animated intro videos.

Business of Design Week (BODW) 2021 “Global Design Reset” was held in hybrid format with local TV broadcast and livestreaming. The summit featured over 80 innovative leaders and had support from the UK and ViuTV, its strategic partners. A new interactive design knowledge platform, bodw+, was launched to provide evergreen content and engage global audiences throughout the year.

A kinetic sculpture “River of Light” was installed at Victoria harbourfront as the 3-year finale of Design District Hong Kong (#ddHK). Commissioned from US-based artist Patrick Shearn, it marked the Hong Kong debut of the globally acclaimed “Skynet Art Series”, and represents one of 7 large-scale installations under #ddHK’s theme “transFORM”.

HKDC was appointed by Sustainable Lantau Office as consultant for conducting a community design research project in Tung O Ancient Trail. The project comprises various design thinking engagement activities that seek to identify revitalisation opportunities along the trail and in nearby villages.
