May had been working in various 4As Advertising Agencies after her graduation, including Ogilvy & Mather, and Bates Advertising. Right after the 1997 handover, May had decided to widen her exposure and joined Bates, Beijing to open their first branch in China. She returned to Hong Kong in 2001 and started her first shop Maymayking in Central. A store up hill selling her own design chic Chinese dresses, handbags with a retro twist. Her cheongsams and handbags are famous for their funky Chinese style - a fusion of modern western design and traditional Chinese design. The shop was a big heat for Japanese tourists and was visited by Agnes b, John Galliano and Anna Sui.
The store went well and leads to the idea of bringing the brand oversea. Within these years, she extended her exposure by joining various trade exhibitions: Ambiente of Frankfurt 2008, Who’s next in Paris 2008, Top-drawers in London 2007 and Tokyo Gift & Premium Show2007. Now you can find her products from UK, Netherlands, Germany and France.
She also organized and participated in different solo and group exhibitions: Hong Kong Creative Ecologies 2011, Stanley ArtMart 2009, The Gardens- Maymayking Solo in Harbour City 2009, X-plus Designers Figurines 2008 at LCX, Hong Kong Brands Week 2008 and Kids Return Maymayking Solo Exhibition 2007. She won New Talents Award from Ambiente, Germany 2008, 10 Best Shops from Style Shopping 2006 and Milk Magazines 2004.
Beyond her passion in promoting her own line of funky products, May was also a lecturer of Advertising and Branding at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) from 2007-09. Transferring her industry experience into lectures for next generation, she was also the external examiner of Visual Arts, Caritas Bianchi College.
