"Fashionista Hong Kong" HKDC's Design Mart 2015@K11 Showcased Local Fashion Design
(Hong Kong, 14 Oct 2015) With a dual vision of nurturing young creative talents and advocating value creation through design, Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) and K11 Design Store joint hands again this year in K11 Design Month to co-organise Design Mart 2015 from 9 to 11 October 2015. A total of 46 local designers/ design companies wowed the shoppers with their trendy and representational merchandises.
Themed “Fashionista Hong Kong”, this year Design Mart has received applications from many talented fashion and accessory designers and design units. 42 design units of accessories, clothing, jewelries and decorations showcased their design along the corridors of first and second levels at K11, while 4 anchor vendors from Design Incubation Programme (DIP) showcased their latest ladies’ wear at Atrium over last weekend. Around 120,000 visitors have participated in the event and brought a total turnover of over HK$510,000.
Earlier on, HKDC has invited Mr Larry Yip, Merchandising Manager of K11 Design Store and Dr Keith Chau of Polytechnic University’s Institute for Entrepreneurship to conduct a knowledge sharing session and a designpreneurship training respectively. Some participating vendors also opted to join a study trip to Shenzhen organised by another HKDC’s certification programme. All these meet-ups and training are meant to build up network and confidence for designpreneur-to-be.
Design Mart 2015 also included a couple of public engagement programmes and a VIP tour. On the first day of Design Mart, Dr Edmund Lee, Executive Director, Ms Elina Lee, Director, Partnership, Marketing and Communications, and Dr John Lo, HKDC Senior Consultant and Chair of Design Incubation Assessment led a VIP tour together with Ms Regina Zhang, Manager, Art Projects (Creative) of K11 Concepts Limited for the guests who are either a supporter or a key figure in fashion industry. They visited the booths and interacted with the participating vendors to support and appreciate young local talents. Mr Arthur Lam, renowned fashion designer joined the VIP tour, expressed his deep appreciation towards the young talents, “the vendors’ fashion, jewellery and product designs are full of creativity and practicality. Design Mart has provided the young designers with a good opportunity to showcase their products to the public.”
Representatives from Blind by JW, LOOM LOOP, HANG and Playback Concept shared with the audience the concept and achievements of their design brands as well as the style and fabric in their collections. The headpiece parent-child workshop led by FAVEbykennyli attracted parents and children to create their own adorable headpieces.
