Supporting Event - Design Competition 1+1 - Expansion of Hong Kong Science Museum and Hong Kong Museum of History

In order to rejuvenate the Museum Complex and invigorate its neighbourhood, expansion with new annex buildings for exhibition and learning facilities and re-provisions of existing out-of-date facilities have been planned by Leisure and Cultural Services Department (“LCSD”) and Architectural Services Department (“ArchSD”).

Both LCSD and ArchSD now join hands to organise the “Design Competition 1+1” – Expansion of Hong Kong Science Museum and Hong Kong Museum of History, and invite Hong Kong's professional architects to contribute innovative and creative ideas on the design.

The Competition is composed of two parts. Part A focuses on providing design ideas for the improvement of façade of HKScM and HKMH with the objective to enhance the identity, sharpen the image of both museums and improve streetscape presence, being part of the expansion of refurbishment exercise. Part B is the design of a selected open space on site as agreed with the Co-Organisers which celebrates the theme of future oriented good urban space with science elements.
